Methodology

How this is built

Every number the app shows you comes from a rule you can read. Here are the rules.

Item writing

All questions and explanations are original and written for this platform. Nothing is reproduced from the NAVLE, from any retired item pool, or from another prep product. Items are clinically framed and single-best-answer, and each one is tagged to a topic with a species, body system, and discipline.

Every option carries its own rationale, including the correct one. A distractor exists to represent a specific reasoning error, and the rationale names that error rather than simply asserting the option is wrong.

Review

Items pass a content check for factual accuracy against standard veterinary references and a structure check for cueing, absolutes, ambiguous lead-ins, and options that are distinguishable by length or grammar instead of medicine. Items flagged by students are re-examined, and an item that misleads more than it teaches gets rewritten or removed.

Mastery

Each topic carries a mastery estimate between 0 and 1. Every answer nudges it toward the observed result with a fixed learning rate, so recent evidence matters more than old evidence without discarding history. Stated confidence adjusts the size of the move: a confident miss is stronger evidence of a real gap than a flagged guess.

Readiness

Readiness combines blueprint coverage with blueprint-weighted mastery. Studying a heavily weighted area moves it more than a rare one, and untouched areas hold it down even when your accuracy looks good. It is a study signal, not a prediction of your score.

Question selection

The next question is chosen to maximize expected learning: weak and blueprint-heavy topics are favored, recently seen items are held back, and unseen material is mixed in so coverage never stalls. It is deliberately not a random draw.

Spaced repetition

Cards use an SM-2 style schedule. Each review updates an ease factor and an interval from how you rated the recall, so easy material leaves the queue quickly and shaky material returns soon. Cards you rate again reset to a short interval.

Limits

Every estimate here is built from your activity inside this platform on a finite item bank. With few attempts the numbers are noisy, mastery cannot see knowledge you never demonstrated here, and the pass-range read on an exam report is an approximation from a practice block rather than an equated score. Use the direction, not the decimal.
